Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at Gardena Buddhist Church Japanese Language School! I hope you all enjoyed your summer and spent time relaxing. Over the summer, our teachers had been getting things ready for the new school year, and now we are all excited about how our students are back on-site and willing to learn Japanese.

Last year was different from what any of us have ever experienced, and we all hoped that we would return to the in-person class this year. However, we decided to continue the online class due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19. The safety and health of our students are our number one priority, so we will continue to work with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure our safety.

I would like to welcome new staff members. Ms. Yuriko Kondo is our 1st-grade teacher. She is also an intern student of Marriage and Family Therapist. She enjoys growing Phalaenopsis orchids in her free time. Ms. Tomoko Ando is our former teacher and just completed a master’s degree in Japan. She is now our administrative assistant. She enjoys golfing and dancing Zumba.

11/27 Sat Thanksgiving Day, No School
12/18 Sat 1st Trimester Ends & ZOOM Conference
12/25・1/1 Sat Winter Break
1/8 Sat 2nd Trimester Begins

Tuition

  1. Payment method:
    Please send a personal check or money order to the school office. Please do not send cash.
  2. Check payable to:
    Gardena Buddhist Church (Not Japanese Language School)
    Write “JLS, month, and full name” (ex. JLS August Harumi Uehara) at the bottom left corner of the check.
  3. Send it to:
    Gardena Buddhist Church Japanese Language School
    1517 W. 166th Street, Gardena, CA 90247
  4. Payment deadline for each month:
    The payment check needs to be mailed by the 5th of every month.
